Goals and Outcomes

Course Goals:

  • Present the historical background and theological development of Holy Orders through the centuries
  • Provide the history of the Roman Catholic Women Priests Movement
  • Examine the impact of inclusive faith communities as an emerging model of grassroots people empowerment and Church reform
  • Offer a response to the Vatican prohibition against Women Priests. 
  • Examine similarities and differences between the Rite of Ordination for Priests in the institutional Church and the Roman Catholic Women Priests Movement. 

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Know the historical and theological development of Holy Orders through the centuries
  • Articulate the history and development of the Roman Catholic Women Priests Movement
  • Understand the impact of inclusive faith communities as a new model of empowerment and partnership in ministry that is rooted in Jesus’ example of an open table. 
  • Prepare talking points to respond to the Vatican’s prohibition on women’s ordination
  • Compare and contrast the Rite of Ordination used by the institutional Church with the Rite used by the Roman Catholic Women Priests Movement
