COURSE GOALS

• Provide overview of historical development of Eucharist
• Present contemporary theology of Eucharist as sacred meal at an open table
• Promote an understanding of Catholic tradition as one of change that invites creation of meaningful ritual to meet contemporary needs
• Offer templates for contemporary liturgies that reflect the diverse experiences of a global church

• Understand the history of Eucharist
• Understand the theological shift from Eucharist as sacrifice to Eucharist as sacred meal
• Understand the purpose of Catholic rituals to nurture faith and reflect Gospel values that are meaningful in our times
• Describe ways in which the reform of Eucharistic theology provides the foundation for new and meaningful Catholic rituals in the 21^st century
• Develop Catholic sacramental liturgies based on contemporary theology
