By the end of this course, students will be able to interpret prophetic literature in the Hebrew Bible within its historical, literary, and theological contexts; distinguish between major categories of prophets and prophetic texts; analyze prophetic call narratives, ethical critiques, and visions of judgment and hope; and engage prophets as complex human figures shaped by vocation, suffering, and moral courage. Students will develop an informed understanding of prophecy as covenantal communication, evaluate the reception of prophetic texts in Jewish and Christian traditions, and thoughtfully integrate prophetic themes into pastoral reflection and ministerial practice.
